SENIOR CITIZENS ARE BUYING UP ALL THE NINTENDO Wii s Seniors Bowled Over by Wii Virtual Bowling Tournament Turns Aging Baby Boomers into Gamers In a fast growing trend, seniors are trading in their Bingo chips for video games. Proving that age is just a number, some gaming grandparents are even teaching their grandkids the ropes. In fact, Wii bowling has become so popular virtual leagues are popping up everywhere. Seniors are taking it to the lanes, minus the smelly shoes and heavy balls, to battle for bragging rights as the top bowler at their local senior center. The Annual Health Net Cup, a series of tournaments to help seniors get moving and stay healthy, is down to the final four. Beating out 86 other centers, the four remaining teams will go head to head to claim the championship title and Health Net trophy. Seniors who participate regularly have reported physical and mental health benefits: increased social interaction, looser joints, and increased daily exercise. Research shows that even mild exercise slows or reverses the physical decline associated with aging. And the trend is spreading, with additional Health Net Cup tournaments already taking place in CA, OR, WA, AZ, and NM. To be considered for the next Health Net Cup bowling tournament, senior center directors can submit the name of their senior center, along with contact information and why their center should be selected to Health_Net_Cup@healthet.com.
